Physioworks Health Group Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh has successfully passed the Function Movement System Level 1 Certification Examination, in order to administer the Functional Movement Screen™
The Functional Movement Screen is a 20 minute patient screening, conducted by certified physiotherapist, using seven (7) functional movements that can predict the risk of injury for athlete/people.
Matthew studied for and completed the certification as the Functional Movement Screen is a tool to assist in injury prevention. “If an athlete/person is not good with a few of the movements, their injury risk will increase. If we improve those movements, with some specific tailored exercises, the patient will have less risk of injury” said Matthew.
“A practical application at a Physioworks clinic would be for a patient wanting to start an exercise or a gym program, but first we want to make sure that they not going to hurt themselves” stated Matthew. “The Functional Movement Screen may also be used at the end of a treatment episode, once the person is better, to help review and access potential risk of re-injury”, he said
Physioworks Health Group Director, David Francis promotes further ongoing education of his health care team to ensure our patients have access to the latest, clinically tested, best practise prevention and treatment techniques.
“The Functional Movement Screen is an injury prevention tool widely used in the USA by sporting teams, including in the NFL, at the start and during the season to help decrease injury. It is likely that it soon will be used more widely in professional sporting codes in Australia, such as the AFL”, said David.
