Physioworks Health Group Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh continues to provide his physiotherapy expertise to elite females sporting teams in 2018.

In January, Matthew Lynagh was the team physiotherapist for the Victorian U15 Girls Cricket team at the 2018 U15 National Cricket Championship held in Adelaide.

In developmental under age elite sports, many challenges present as most athletes have different levels of growth, fitness and development in their ever changing bodies – all important considerations for the health care team in providing best support for both the individual and the team.

The U15 Victorian Girls battled hard and did well at the Cricket Championship – just missing a possible Grand Final spot due to a final round loss, and then winning 5th spot in a playoff match against WA.

Matthew reports that there were very few injuries for the Victorian team as a preventive program was developed and used during the warm up to keep the girl’s on the pitch and injury free.

“The biggest issue over the Championship week for all teams was the heat, with 7 girls going to hospital across the 8 teams” said Matthew. “So to combat the heat, hydration and eating good food was key – we made sure the girls were continually drinking fluids (water/hydralyte) and eating lots of fruits and vegetables’ added Matthew.

In 2018 APA Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh will be consulting at Physioworks Health Group Camberwell, including conducting Clinical Pilates sessions at the clinic. Matthew will also continue to consult at Physioworks Berwick and Cranbourne clinics this year.
