The Ashy Redbacks recently held a “Female Athletes Night” for all the girls and their families at the Club, supported by Physioworks Health Group as part of our sponsorship of Girls Footy at the club.
David Francis, Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Head Physiotherapist at the Collingwood FC (AFL), alongside Exercise Physiologist Megan Jepson presented to the girls, coaches and families followed by a Q&A session.
David shared his AFL expertise on Injury Prevention & Management, while Megan focussed on Nutrition & Body Composition to ensure best preparation and conditioning to help ensure long term participation in the sport.
David Francis said “We are passionate about participation in community footy, and especially the opportunities being presented by girls footy. So whether the girls are playing AFL for fun, friendship, fitness or for a career in the sport, Physioworks want to help educate the girls to ensure ongoing participation and an injury free footy journey. Congratulations to all at the Ashy Redbacks for this night; a great initiative for girls footy at the club.”
Other topics covered at the evening included Sports Psychology (and the importance of self-belief and goal setting) and an understanding of the rapidly changing Footy Pathways that are available for female footy players.
Speakers at the evening also included Jules Hay, Luke O’Shannessy and former Ashy players Stephanie Harvie and Millie Klingbeil. who are now both playing in the VFLW.
